PTO Budget & Gifting

One goal of the PTO is to raise money through fundraisers to support Brownsville. In 2010-2011, the Brownsville families supported by the PTO raised over $40,000. The proceeds from these fundraisers are used in two ways:

Ongoing Commitments: First, the PTO develops a budget at the beginning of the year which directs funds raised throughout the year to benefit Brownsville. These include funds to support the Library, for example, as well as to support individual teachers and departments.

Special One-Time Gifting: Second, in the Spring of every year, the PTO asks parents, teachers and administrators for ideas of “Special Gifts” that the PTO will make at the end of the year after a vote of the general membership. These are one-time gifts.

The major highlights of how these funds were given directly back to Brownsville in 2010-2011 are listed below:

$ 11,500 given directly to Classroom Teachers to Support their Educational Mission

$ 2,500 to support Music, Special Education, Speech, PE, Art, Gifted Program, School Nurse and Technology

$ 2,500 for a Literacy Fund to support all Brownsville Students

$2,000 to establish a Professional Development Fund for our Teachers

$ 2,000 for Teacher Appreciation Events and Activities throughout the year

$ 1,500 to support the Kid Pan Alley songwriting program

$ 1,000 to support the Library

$1,000 to provide Resource Books for Teachers

$1,000 to start a fund to develop a master plan for Brownsville exterior spaces
